Who We Are

Northland Prosthetics and Orthotics Inc. is a healthcare practice dedicated to providing prosthetic and orthotic care to patients across Northwestern Ontario. Our facility is the only one of its kind between Sudbury and Winnipeg, providing patients with access to Canadian Board Certified Prosthetists, Orthotists and Prosthetic Technicians. It is our mandate to not only improve access to specialized health care services, but to provide the highest standard of specialized patient care for Northern Ontario’s residents and all communities we serve.

Staff

Kerry Calder – Owner, Certified Prosthetist

Kerry brings both a clinical and technical background to Northland Prosthetics and Orthotics. Kerry graduated from the George Brown College Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician program in 1992 and worked as a technician at the Alberta Children’s Hospital before graduating the Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics program at BCIT in 1996. He subsequently worked as a private practice Clinician in Alberta for 9 years before moving to Thunder Bay in 2005.

In 2006 Kerry became the owner/operator of Northland Prosthetics and has brought his expertise in prosthetics to Thunder Bay. Kerry is continually adding to his knowledge by taking specialty courses and learning new techniques in the fit and fabrication of prosthetic limbs.  As a trans-tibial amputee and an avid outdoorsman, Kerry empathizes with prosthetic patients and has an excellent understanding of prosthetic demands in the rugged parts of Northern Ontario.

Val Lindberg – Certified Prosthetist Orthotist

Val received her Honors Bachelors of Science in Life Sciences at the University of Toronto in 2009, and completed a post-graduate diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2012. Val has a clinical background in prosthetics as well as orthotics, bringing expertise in both fields to Northland Prosthetics and Orthotics. Some of her most recent work involves the use of elevated vacuum in prosthetics and new design strategies for patients requiring partial foot prostheses.

Before moving to Thunder Bay, Val worked for 7 years with children who have special needs at Toronto’s Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab. Val has an affinity for pediatric prosthetics and orthotics and a keen interest in modern prosthetic and orthotic technologies.

Mike graduated from the George Brown College Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician program in 2007. He completed his Prosthetic Technical Internship at Northland Prosthetics and has been a part of our team ever since. This year Alex has started his Technical Internship and is gaining experience in fabrication of all types of prostheses. Alex has a passion for rehabilitation studies and is working towards implementing a therapy program for targeted strengthening and training for high activity level amputees.
